#ÃÊ·Ï#
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the palpal response against formocresol
and various concentrations of glutaraldehyde (2%, 5%, 10%, 20%). The experiment was
performed on dog¡¯s teeth (64 teeth from 4 dogs) and the teeth were rountinely treated
in laboratory procedures. Histologic examinations of pulp tissue reaction were observed
at various time intervals(1, 2, 5, 10 weeks).
Followings are the results obtained through microscopical examination.
1. The reactions and changes of pulp tissue were similar in formocresol group, and in
2%, 5%, 10% glutaraldehyde groups within 1 week.
2. According to the time increase after experiment, there was seen the prgression of
degenerative changes toward the apical third in formocresol group, and in 2%, 5%, 10%
glutaraldehyde group degenerative changes was seen in the coronal third, but normal
pulp tissue in the apical third.
3. In formocresol group and 20% glutaraldhyde group, the odentoblastic layer was
damaged and destructed, but there was good odontoblastic layer in 2%, 5%, 10%
glutaraldehyde group at the apical third of 10 weeks.
4. In formaocresol group and glutareldehyde group, the formation of dentin bridge was
not seen, but the resorption of dentin was seen in the formocresol group and in the
glutaraldehyde groups of 10 weeks.
5. In glutaraldehyde groups there was no differences in inflammatory reactions and
degenerative changes, but 20% glutaraldehyde group showed the thickest fixed pulp
tissue.
